We already experience massive demonstrations of how exposure triggers terrible personal, communal, societal and collective losses in so many levels and so many places. Things are much harder to predict

The internet, amplifying misinformation and negativity at a scale while being also very addictive, challenges our collective and personal minds. We are only starting to fully understand its full power on us. Specifically its ability to undermine societal stability and individual mental fortitude has not yet fully understood and mapped out.

Exposure can drive to impact entire populations and trigger a range of adverse collective and psychological reactions

The constant barrage of traumatizing content, driven by sophisticated algorithms, can deeply affect also collective mental health of entire populations. Both can also amplify anxiety and hopeless. This can lead to a phenomenon known as “vicarious traumatization,” where individuals internalize the distress of the traumatic events they witness indirectly, leading to adverse psychological reactions similar to post-traumatic stress. When people have difficult to balance the consumption of media, widespread psychological waves emerge which further harm any mental emotional health of collectives.

We only know how unpredictable the times are in, how powerful technology has gotten, and how fragile our nervous system had become.

Choosing not to share graphic content is an act of collective care, fostering a more supportive, respectful, and empathetic and safer online community.

In the wake of COVID-19, our global society is grappling with heightened challenges: a surge in suicide and addiction rates, the amplified emotional turmoil of teenagers, an increase in dormant traumas and conditions like PTSD and CPTSD, the growing greed among political figures, and significant threats to the middle class from advancements in AI and economic instability. While we work to find balance between freedom of expression and civil liberties, while we evolve the discourse about toxic information, and the the number of opinions widens we should encourage people to only share, read and expose yourself to what is strictly necessary.
